Chennai: The state government on Monday filed a defamation case against the Editor and Publisher of a Tamil weekly ‘Ananda Vikatan’ for publishing a malicious content against the Food Minister.
On behalf of minister R. Kamaraj, city public prosecutor M.L. Jegan filed the petition before the principal sessions court on Monday. According to Jegan, Editor R. Kannan and Publisher S. Madhavan of the magazine had published a news item in the issue of July 15, 2015, which defamed the minister.
The contents in the article were false. They published the news item without verifying the facts. The news story spoiled the minister's reputation. Hence, the journalists had committed an offence punishable under section 500 IPC. The complaint will come up for hearing soon.
