AP chief secretary and secretaries to work from Vijayawada

To set an example, the CM has changed his programme and has decided to stay at Vijayawada
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asked the chief secretary and secretaries of various departments to work from Vijayawada three to four days a week. A circular issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said that the government will provide accommodation to secretaries at Vijayawada if available otherwise they have to make their own arrangements.
To set an example, the CM has changed his programme and has decided to stay at Vijayawada.
According to the original schedule, Mr Naidu was to return by evening to Hyderabad after participating in programmes in Visakhapatnam. He changed his mind suddenly and decided to stay at Vijayawada for four days.
Mr Naidu had called for a review meeting of the finance department on the first quarter performance at Hyderabad on Tuesday. This venue has been changed to Vijayawada.
The CMO asked finance department officials to reach Vijayawada to attend the meeting at 11 am. The CMO also alerted other secretaries to be ready to go to Vijayawada to attend review meetings held by the CM in the next four days. The CM wants to shift the administration to the new capital region at the earliest. Two days back in a meeting held with ministers and MLAs Mr Naidu said that he will stay at Vijayawada three days a week after Independence Day. But now he decided to implement this immediately.
According to Mr Naidu’s directions, all the secretaries will have to search for their accommodation at Vijayawada. Officials said that the government accommodation will available to three to four officers and the remaining officers have to search on their own. The officers working in CMO have no problem for their accommodation. They will be allotted rooms and meeting halls in the CM’s camp office.
Meanwhile the state government issued orders that the camp office of the Krishna district collector located opposite the Exhibition Grounds will be the camp office of the chief secretary. The government felt that the continued presence of the chief secretary is needed at Vijayawada for better coordination and decision making process. The government said as the eoffice system is already in place, it is felt that the files can be disposed of electronically, from wherever the officers are functioning from.
The IAS officers committee appointed by the AP government headed by AP Panchayat Raj secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy submitted its report to chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao on Monday. The committee was appointed to find accommodation for government offices in the new capital region. In the report the committee said that it has found 7 lakh square feet accommodation in government and private buildings and has to find out some more accommodation.
The committee said 25 lakh square feet accommodation is required to accommodate 25,000 employees. To locate government offices in Medha towers at Gannavaram near Vijayawada state government has to take steps to get the Gannavaram Special Economic Zone denotified by the Centre.
The committee has said that the chilli yard in Guntur is not suitable to locate government offices. It suggested that the government constitute a committee with finance and general administration department officials and employees union leaders to locate residential accommodation for staff.
The decision on allotment of house sites to employees, the committee left to the government. However the committee said if any employ has his own house site the government can provide loan facility to construct a house.
