Hyderabad: The Hussaini Alam police allegedly beat up a 31-year-old man during the Bonalu procession at Murgi Chowk area on Sunday night after he questioned them about the delay in the procession. C. Praveen Kumar, 31, of Hussaini Alam, an executive in a private firm in the city, was taken to a private hospital at Santoshnagar.
Kumar was leading the Bonalu procession from Koka Ki tatti. When the procession reached Murgi Chowk at around 12.30 am, there was a huge rush and they had to wait for some time. According to Kumar’s friends, inspector Swamy, who was looking after the bandobust, told them to stop. When Kumar tried to explain to the inspector, he was allegedly abused. After the procession moved about 100 metres ahead, two cops took Kumar aside.
“They took him aside and beat him up. He suffered severe injuries on his legs and ribs. Doctors said one of his left rib is fractured. He is facing difficulty in breathing and talking,” said his friend, Dinesh. Kumar was admitted to hospital after he showed symptoms of vomiting and suffocation on Monday morning.
Police denied that Kumar was beaten up. They claim he was drunk and was disturbing the procession along with a group of friends. Charminar ACP Ashok Chakravarthy said he was on duty and there was no officer with the name Swamy.
