Dutee Chand surges to gold in 200 metres

Dutee outpaced Uttar Pradesh sprinter Stuti Singh (24.69), and Rajni Nagar (25.18) of Haryana
Hyderabad: Dutee Chand celebrated her comeback to competition in style, winning the women’s 200 metres sprint on the final day of the 13th Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championships at the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletics Stadium in Gachibowli on Sunday.
Dutee outpaced Uttar Pradesh sprinter Stuti Singh (24.69), and Rajni Nagar (25.18) of Haryana. Meanwhile, Kerala clinched the overall championship with 189 points. Haryana, with 161 points, finished second.
There was some consolation for Haryana, however, as they were crowned the junior’s mens’ champions with 129 points. Kerala, however, were crowned the junior women’s champions, with 123 points.
One meet record was equalled while three were broken in different events. Tamil Nadu’s Siva matched the meet best when he cleared 4.80 metres in the men’s pole vault event.
The other two records were set by the men’s and women’s winners in the 4x400 metres relay. Kerala women set a new record (3:46.97) on the way to victory. West Bengal (3:53.64) and Tamil Nadu (3:54.64) finished second and third respectively.
In the men’ 4x400 metres relay, Tamil Nadu ruled the roost, winning in 3:12.57 and set a new meet record in the process. Kerala won silver while Haryana settled for third.
