Telangana to take up Delhi model for public transport GRPS
Hyderabad: The Telangana transport department has asked for GPS and GPRS-based tracking systems to be introduced in public transport vehicles operating in Greater Hyderabad.
The department has constituted a high level committee to decide on the proposal to appoint Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System Limited as transaction adviser to prepare detailed project report for installation of vehicle tracking systems in passenger vehicles and setting up a centralised control centre.
The department said the system would help enforcement agencies like the police and transport department to track vehicles.
It would also help vehicle owners and passengers. In March, speaking on the need to instal tracking systems, the transport commissioner had pointed out several crimes had been reported against passengers, particularly women passengers, while travelling in public vehicles.
The twin cities have nearly 1.91 lakh public vehicles. The general complaints received by the transport department regarding public vehicles, especially autorickshaws, is that the staff are not courteous, turn away passengers, demand extra fare and tamper with the fare metres.
Taking a longer route than normal is among the other misdemeanours.
