Muslims pray for rains in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Several of Muslim men offered prayers at the Idgah Hockey Ground in Masab Tank on Sunday, seeking rain and prosperity. Many of the men were found weeping while offering prayers seeking forgiveness for their sins and pleading for rains.
The Namaz-e-Istisqa is a way to humble oneself before God and seek forgiveness so that the rains descend.
“It is a special namaz and Muslim ummah is guided to offer it when there is great scarcity of water and hope of rain dwindles,” said said Asifuddin Muhammed, Islamic scholar.
“Namaz-e-Istisqa must offered only under the open sky, and people should turn the palms of their hands downward, facing the ground when praying for rain,” said Maulana Afzal Ali Shah.
“Even though Namaz-e-Istisqa is mustahab (recommended and not obligatory), Muslims are urged to offer it in jamaat (congregation),” Mr Shah added
