KPCC dissolves Guruvayoor block committee

KPCC general secretary Padmaja Venugopal has been put in charge of the committee

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran on Sunday dissolved the Guruvayoor block committee of the party following the murder of a local congress leader A. C. Haneefa in group rivalry.

KPCC sub-committee led by its general secretary P. M. Suresh Babu also recommended the dissolution of the block committee.

KPCC general secretary Padmaja Venugopal has been put in charge of the committee.

The panel also recommended suspension of block committee president Gopaprathapan from the preliminary membership, KPCC general secretary Thampanoor Ravi said in a statement.

Apart from Suresh Babu, other members of the sub-committee include KPCC general secretary Babu Prasad and secretary M. M. Nazeer.

Earlier in the day, while inaugurating the Quit India anniversary at the KPCC office here, Mr Sudheeran said criminals would not have any stake in the party.

He said the CPM “went away from the people because of its stand on murder politics” and the same fate should not happen to the Congress.

“The party has never promoted murder politics but still there are undesirable tendencies. Hence, the Congress leaders should introspect themselves. The Chavakkad incident is really unfortunate and condemnable. Congress leaders who have been demanding other parties to desist from violence should never promote it,” he said.

The two factions in the Congress has erupted in to yet another revolt with the suspension of Gopaprathapan. On Monday, the 'I' faction has decided to take out a protest march against his suspension.
