Man held for cheating senior officials

Hyderabad: The West Zone police on Sunday arrested a man who had allegedly used the names of senior government officials to collect money from their juniors. Police seized Rs 20,000 in cash and four mobile phones from M.B.V.S. Sharma of Amalapuram, East Godavari district. Police said Sharma used collect details of officials, and strike when the official was away.
“He would call a junior and inform him that the officer’s children have lost their baggage and would request him to arrange money through online transfer. Many officers believed him and deposited the money, only to know later that they were cheated,” said West Zone DCP A. Venkateshwara Rao.
He had also impersonated marketing commissioner Dana Kishore and cheated agricultural market committee secretary T.S.R.K. Shastry of Rs 50,000. The DCP said Sharma had called officials of many agricultural market committees and collected money from them. Officers in the medical and health department and private doctors also fell prey to him. Police said Sharma is wanted in 11 similar cases in TS and AP.
