A statue for late legend MS Viswanthan
Cine Musician Union paid rich tributes to late legend MS Viswanthan
Recently, the Cine Musician Union paid rich tributes to late legend MS Viswanthan, who had initiated the forming of the association under Ilaiyaraaja’s august presence, several years ago. Many composers, playback singers, instrumentalists and lyricists were present on the occasion.
After unveiling the portrait of MSV, Ilaiyaraaja said, “My guru MS Viswanathan was the main person who was more instrumental in starting a union for the musicians. Those days, all the musicians worked tirelessly without a break and took salaries only after the film got released. Unlike today, there were no spot payments! To regularise the timings and remunerations, as well as bring about a system, anna (MSV) felt there should be an association. He lives in our hearts forever through his music.”
Gandhi Kanndadasan, son of the iconic lyricist Kannadasan, requested in his speech that a statue of MS Viswanathan be installed in Chennai, preferably in Mylapore Luz Corner,
or Beach Junction to honour him.
