Now, VM Sudheeran blasts Advocate General’s office
‘AG’s relatives fighting against state not right’
KOCHI: The office of the advocate-general has again come under attack, this time from KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran. “The primary responsibility of the office of the advocate- general is to protect the interest of the state in litigation. The family members of the AG appearing against the government in the cases is not right,” he said while inaugurating the Indian Lawyers Congress in Kochi on Saturday.
The AG is responsible for protecting the interests of the government and his family members should not appear against it in courts, he said.
Mr Sudheeran’s remarks are in contrast to those made by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and others in the government defending the AG after Justice Alexander Thomas criticised the functioning of the AG’s office. Mr Sudheeran said that there was nothing improper on the part of the court in pointing out the faults of the AG and his team of advocates in conducting cases.
He, however, criticised Justice Alexander Thomas for his observations against Mr. Chandy over his remarks against the attorney-general appearing for the bar owners in the Supreme Court.
“People occupying the high constitutional positions should understand the importance of their position,” he said. The attorney-general has no right to continue in the post after arguing for bar owners against the state government, he said.
