No clues yet on Thiruvankulam accident
Kochi: With the probe failing to unearth any lead even after five days, the cops have begun examining the medical records of V V Viju, whose car plunged into an abandoned quarry near Thiruvakulam, killing four.
“As part of the probe, we’ll now record the statements of the doctor who had treated Viju. He was said to have certain neurological issues after suffering a head injury five years back. Further, his medical records will also be examined to know whether he had undergone any phase of depression,” a senior police official said.
KWA Assistant Engineer V V Viju and his family were killed when their Tata Safari car deviated from the main road and travelled over 30 metres through a bylane before falling into a 200-metre -deep quarry at Sastham Mukal on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi national highway around 11 p.m. on Sunday last.
Police ruled out any external factors that forced the car to enter the small road. They said Viju knew the route quite well and used to travel through the route frequently.
A forensic team would again examine the vehicle in which the family members travelled. “The team from the headquarters will reach here soon to inspect the vehicle and assess the factors leading to the accident including the speed of the vehicle,” said K. Jinadevan, Circle inspector of police, Piravom.
A Motor Vehicles team which earlier inspected the Tata Safari ruled out any mechanical defects. “The vehicle didn’t suffer any pre-fall collision. All damage was due to the fall into the 200-metre quarry. This shows the vehicle entered the bylane and even travelled 30 metres normally,” said an MVD official.
“The route was familiar to him and he used to travel frequently. The question remains as to why he entered the byroad. There are also reports that he had a severe head injury some years back and that there were certain behavioural changes noticed in him..,” said a noted psychiatrist on condition of anonymity.
The autopsy report revealed that Viju died of a head injury while his wife and two kids were suffocated.
