Thiruvananthapuram: There may be a freeze on teachers’ appointments in government schools in view of the new package because protected teachers redeployed from aided and government schools will have to be appointed in various agencies under the general education department.
As per preliminary estimates, at least 10,000 teachers are likely to be included in the protected teachers’ category after the regularisation of teachers, including specialist teachers appointed in private aided schools between the academic years 2010-11and 2014-15.
Even in the case of division fall, the teachers appointed in these posts will be given salaries by the parent schools till they are redeployed.
Uneconomic schools can appoint teachers only on contract basis, as per the package. Therefore, there would be no future permanent appointments in these schools.
Only schools with 15 students in at least four divisions and with a total of 60 students will be considered as economical. These schools can make permanent appointments at 1:45 ratio.
The government has to redeploy the unemployed teachers of aided schools in agencies like Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
Otherwise, these posts would have been filled through the PSC, said Mr K.C. Harikrishnan, general secretary, pro-CPM Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA).
However, the aided school managements would continue to have the right to make the appointments, he said.
