Maang tikkas are a huge hit with the glam brigade in the city

Gold and jewelled maang tikkas are usually worn with very traditional outfits. The traditional headgear has been given a contemporary twist. This year the fashion accessory has emerged a royal favourite among the Kolly brigade. Actresses Regina Cassandra, Taapsee Pannu and Kriti Kharbanda were all seen adorning statement maang tikkas on the red carpet of the recently concluded SIIMA awards in Dubai.
Says Rohita Vee of the jewellery brand ROIA, “Maang tikkas are great accessories to pep up any drab outfit. They are traditional and at the same time, create a bold statement. Somehow they manage to make a person stand out in the crowd. No wonder then that the Kolly actresses were all for it at the award function.”
City-based stylist and designer Prajanya Anand says that maang tikkas are extremely sassy and make a strong style statement. She puts forth, “These days mang tikkas are not the heavy styles that were sported by our mums and grannies. They are much more delicate and crafted using pearls, beads, uncut diamonds and semi-precious stones. So they are easy to carry off. It is a great piece of statement jewellery and is trending big time. I think we will see a lot more of it this wedding season.”
