Manisha Koirala to play Sunanda Pushkar in Oru Melliya Kodu?
Shaam will also be seen in a character reminiscent of Tharoor
Director AMR Ramesh, known for making films based on real-life sensitive issues like Kuppi (on Rajiv Gandhi killing) and Vana Yuddham (on forest brigand Veerappan) is once again at it. His upcoming flick Oru Melliya Kodu is said to be inspired by the suspicious death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, which is still under investigation. It is learnt that Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala who is back in K’town after a long gap essays Sunanda’s character and Shaam will be seen in a character reminiscent of Tharoor. Arjun will take on the role of the investigating officer in the project. Right from the day of its launch, Ramesh says there have been protests against the movie. However, the film is now complete and maestro Ilaiyaaraja is working on its music.
The director now reveals that he has been getting threatening calls to stop the film being released from political sources! “I live in Karnataka and I have been getting anonymous calls threatening me with dire consequences if I release the movie. I can’t reveal if the film is on Sunanda Pushkar or not. All I can say is that the story is about how a well-known personality kills his wife by poisoning her,” he tells DC.
“My earlier flicks did not have any controversial content and never hurt anyone — Oru Melliya Kodu will also follow in a similar vein. When you watch it, you will know. Raja sir who is doing the background score is very impressed. I am not going to get panicky with these kinds of calls. I will censor the film and bring it to theatres by mid next month,” he says.
