Officials confident of water supply in Telangana
Hyderabad: Officials are worried about the likely conditions beyond October if there are no rains. “We must look beyond October. May be till the onset of next monsoon for which the Board has been told to be ready with high-powered motors so that the dead storage water of NS Dam (about 20 TMC ft) can be utilised in the months to come,” revenue department principal secretary B.R. Meena told this newspaper.
While admitting that Telangana was currently going through a severe drought like condition, the senior official in-charge of the Disaster Management department said that the concerned departments like revenue, agriculture, groundwater, irrigation and animal husbandry had also been alerted to gear up to meet exigencies
He added that two days ago the government had instructed all Revenue officials, including mandal revenue officers, to strictly implement the Water, Land and Tree Act (Walta) and ban any fresh digging of borewells by farmers to save their crops.
