e-District a hit with certificate seekers
Kochi: The e-District project of the state government which helps people access government services online seems to have come in handy for students seeking admissions in educational institutions this season: according to State IT Mission, 8.9 lakh certificates were issued online in June alone.
This is about 54 per cent higher from the number of certificates issued in June last year. Only 3.09 certificates were issued in April this year.
Income certificate, caste certificate, nativity certificate, residence certificate and domicile certificate are among the 24 types of certificates issued through e-district project.
As per the monthly report of the IT Mission on the performance of various services, 22 persons per 1,000 population have availed the service, compared with 14 persons last year.
There is also an increase in the number of transactions under payment services, with 3.11 lakh transactions involving Rs 24 crore being done during the month.
IT Mission director Mohammed Safirulla said the number has gone up because people have found it easy to access the service through Akshaya centres and other facilities.
“More than the students, their parents find it handy, especially in districts such as Idukki and Wayanad where service delivery through online media is faster and easier compared with other areas,” he said.
“Now that the service has been there the last three years, people have become more accustomed to it.” The service quality and reach have also made remarkable progress in Kerala compared with most other Indian states, he said.
