DC impact: Madras High Court directive to government on toilets in courts across Tamil Nadu
Justice R. Mahadevan also directed the state government to specify the period by which remedial measures would be taken
Chennai: Treating as a suo motu writ petition a report in DC on the condition of women’s toilets in courts (‘Loo’ming problem for lawyers in mofussil courts) the Madras high court has directed the government to carry out inspection within the next hearing date and file a status report along with photographs on the facility in courts across the state.
A Division bench comprising the Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R. Mahadevan also directed the state government to specify the period by which remedial measures would be taken. Posting the matter to Sept. 21, the bench ordered notice to the secretaries, home, PWD and municipal administration and water supply departments.
