Estranged lovers, says Kareena Kapoor about her and Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have come very close to working with each other on several occasions, but nothing has materialised so far. SLB had offered Bebo Paro’s role in Devdas and later Nandini’s role in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, both of which were eventually bagged by Aishwarya Rai. More recently, she was even chosen and nearly finalised for Ram-Leela but Kareena opted out of the project at the last minute. Bajirao Mastani, too, was meant to be her film when eight years ago SLB chose her as the heroine to star opposite Salman Khan. The two had even done a photo-shoot for the same.

But Bebo seems to have no regrets. She shrugs and says, “Every role has its own destiny. I am sure Deepika will be fabulous.” Speaking of her equation with Sanjay, Kareena continues with a smile, “Sanjay and I have a chhattis ka akhra. We are like estranged lovers from our previous birth. In this life we are not meant to come together. But in our next life we’ll kill it on screen.”

She does hope though that the opportunity comes in this life itself. “Inshaallah. I really love Sanjay and he knows it. In spite of all the missed opportunities of working together we don’t have a single negative thought about one another,” she says.
