Wrong number? Police puzzled over Wasim Akram's inputs about gun attacker's car

Mumbai: Former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram has inadvertently provided wrong information about gun attacker's car to the police. This was revealed by Abid Qaimkhani, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), who is investigating the case in Gulshan area in Karachi.

Speaking exclusively from Pakistan on Thursday morning, Qaimkhani said, "The police is confused either with the wrong car number or other details inadvertently provided by Akram."

"Akram had given us the car number as AEG 061 and described it as a white colour Honda car (2002 model) but the same car traced out by our RTO is a maroon coloured car and it belongs to the citizen Uber Ahmed."

"Perhaps in the heat of moments Akram may have noted some wrong alphabet or the digit of the car number plate."

"We shall now take the help of the CCTV footage and try to trace the driver."

Later, Munir Shaikh, the Deputy Inspector General of Karachi East, said, "We have not reached on any conclusion. But surely it is a case of road rage."

"We are trying to find out exactly what happened and who the culprit was."

‘Not major accident’:

"What I can confirm you is that it was not a major accident. It only came in light because it involved Wasim Akram," the police official added.

"There is no damage to Akram's car. Not even the tyre of his car is damaged. It is only some scratch above the right side of his Mercedes (led 502)," Qaimkhani added. (Photo: AP)

It has been reported in the media that the gun-attacker shot fire at his car's tyres, but it seems the firing was done in the air.

"It took Akram 1-1 1/2 hours to be relieved at the police enquiries with a result he could not reach at the National Cricket Stadium, where he was supposed to train the players," he concluded.
