Iqbal Abdullah was made a suspect approach during IPL 8, reports to BCCI

The 'big fan' asked for inside information on Royal Challengers Bangalore

Mumbai: Iqbal Abdullah, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s left-arm spinner, was made a suspect approach during the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League.

According to reports in ‘The Indian Express’ and ‘espncricinfo’, the Mumbai cricketer was approached by a fan to seek team information during the first week of the IPL 8. The former under-19 cricketer reported the matter to BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit.

It is learnt that Abdullah received a barrage of text messages from a man who called himself ‘a big fan’ of the cricketer. The supposed fan bombarded Abdullah with messages asking for a photograph in the hotel lobby.

When the cricketer finally gave up and decided to get clicked, the fan is known to have asked Abdullah some inside information on team. Abdullah was quick to step away from the fan and approached RCB’s ACSU officer.

While the recently concluded edition of IPL was largely controversy-free, this was second such instance including Pravin Tambe reportedly getting approached to fix a game.

In connection with this matter, BCCI suspended Mumbai Ranji cricket team player Hiken Shah.
