‘Eastern Corridor’ eco-tourism by December

Second phase includes development of Nilambur gateway

KOZHIKODE: The much-awaited ‘Eastern Corridor’ eco-tourism development project of Nilambur in Malappuram district will be completed by the end of December.

The project covering eco-tourism spots between Thusharagiri and Perinthalmanna has completed its first phase with an amount of Rs 1 crore.

The second phase will start with Rs 80 lakh sanctioned by Nilambur municipality chairman Aryadan Shoukath.

The second phase includes the development of ‘Eastern Corridor,’ the Nilambur gateway, near Vadapuram bridge.

The gateway will be the major entrance point to all the tourism spots in Nilambur region, where a grand facility will be arranged for tourists from around the globe.

“The gateway will have all the facilities, including tourists information centre, waiting hall, resting place, cafeteria, theatre, children’s park and other requirements, said Nilambur district Tourism Promotion Council Secretary V. Ummer Koya.

“We will arrange cycle rides for tourists from the gateway to the major tourist spots in Nilambur. The gateway will be the ideal place to get all the information and facilities for tourist before they get to see the greenery of Nilambur,” he said.

The other projects include renovation of guest house, upgradation of wood industry, tourists cottage, walkway to Canoly plot and hi-tech toilet facilities and cafeterias at every tourists destinations.

The works of eco-hub at Adyanpara, development of Biyyam bridge, Wandoor Town Square tourism development and Kottakkunnu musical fountain are also going on at a fast pace.

According to Nilambur Tourism Coordinator Biju Master, the projects will benefit the locals also. Increase in land value, employment opportunities in transportation, accommodation and food sectors and the development of tourist spots are likely from the project.
