Mumbai: The Borivali police on Thursday received an application to register a complaint against self-proclaimed godwoman “Shri Radhe Guru Maa” on charges of obscenity and hurting religious sentiments. Earlier, based on a magistrate court’s order, a first information report had been registered against the godwoman at Kandivali police station for “instigating” a rich man to demand dowry from his wife. The man’s wife had filed the FIR against the godwoman, her husband and in-laws. Senior police inspector, Borivali police station, Gunaji Sawant, confirmed that a lawyer had given them a written complaint against the godwoman, however he refused to reveal the name of the complainant.
“The complaint states that she should be booked for obscenity and by doing this (indulging in obscenity), she has hurt religious sentiments. We will investigate and find out if a case is made out. We shall take a legal opinion on it,” said Mr Sawant.
Photographs of a woman resembling the godwoman dressed in a short red dress had gone viral on social media. Even Rahul Mahajan, son of the late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, had shared them on his Twitter account.

Falguni Brahmbhatt, who is said to be the lawyer who had complained against the godwoman, alleged that the latter was running a business in the name of religion and misleading innocent people. Many people tweeted against the godwoman, including celebrities and journalists.Reacting to all the allegations, Sanjeev Gupta, managing trustee, Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa Charitable Trust, said, “The photographs going viral are not of Radhe Maa. It’s an attempt to tarnish her image. What obscenity has Maa done? If a son lifts his mother, will you call it obscenity?
All the allegations levelled by the woman (who filed a FIR with the Kandivali police) are false and she is blackmailing Radhe Maa. We have firm faith in the courts and are certain that the truthwill finally prevail. You may visit www.radhemaa.com to know about her social works.”
