Parties to battle for 12 MLC seats in Telangana
Hyderabad: The election notification for 12 MLC seats from the local body quota is likely to be issued within 10 days. Barring Hyderabad, elections will be held in the nine other districts of the state, according to sources.
The news gave an edge to the preparations of the TRS and other political parties. Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao held discussions with party leaders and exuded confidence that the party would win all seats. The TRS swept the MLC elections under the Assembly quota recently and is in high spirits.
The BJP has sought postponement of MLC elections in Hyderabad, Warangal and Khammam districts, where corporation elections are due.
However, the Chief Electoral Officer agreed to postpone elections only in Hyderabad, according to BJP MLC N. Ramachander Rao.
“I expect MLC election notification under local body quota will be issued within 10 days. TRS is geared up for polls and we will win all seats,” TRS MLC, Bhanuprasad said.
It is reliably learnt that Congress has requested TRS to leave three seats in an internal understanding, but TRS is non committal.
Sources said the CM is keen to contest all the seats and ensure a win so that the party is strong in the legislative council too.
The TRS government’s new scheme ‘Grama Jyothi’ to empower villages is also to win over people in the run up to the polls.
