Metro Water Board leaves Secunderabad Cantonment Board thirsty
Hyderabad: The complete shutdown of drinking water by the Metro Water Board has affected supply in the SCB area. Several wards did not receive water for six days. The ill-timed 24-hour shutdown from 6 am on August 4 for maintenance work on the Krishna Water Drinking Supply Phase-II, has exacerbated the crisis.
SCB Wards 4, 5 and 6 including all of Marredpally, Indrapuri Railway Colony, Mahindra Hills, Ganeshnagar, Karkhana, Vasavinagar, Jyothi Colony, HSPH reservoir areas and Control Room areas of Railways, Beg-umpet airport, Hasmathpet and Kharkhana area have not been receiving water for the last six days.
Mr Raj Kumar, SCB water works head, said, “The SCB gets tap water once in three days. On the third day, the supply day, the Water Board shut down supply.” “On the fourth and fifth days the SCB did not receive water. On August 5, SCB received not even 25 per cent of water. There was no distribution to many areas. The supply improved on August 6 and distribution started on Thursday,” he said.
Residents insist that the board should make alternative arrangements. P. Shradha of Radhika Colony, Marredpally, said, “The SCB should arrange to send tankers, colony wise. When tankers can be sent to VIP houses and slums, why are the middle class residents ignored? Residents were not prepared for the six-day zero supply.”
Mr Ramanathan of Indrapuri Colony said, “In case of a breakdown, the SCB should look for alternatives like asking the HMWS&SB for tankers. We are paying water bills as well as shelling out money for tankers. In many areas the pressure is very low and supply is insufficient.”
