Magazine held over for ‘tarring’ Modi’s image
Thrissur: A private printing press at Thrissur has detained copies of a college magazine as it depicted the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the 10 top wanted criminals in the world. T.F. James, Chairman of the Ebenezer Printers told DC that copies of ‘Purammodi’ a magazine of the Maharaja Technical Institute was not handed to the students as it contained highly objectionable matter.
The press had declined to hand over 300 copies of the magazine after printing it following apprehensions about the political and legal consequences, he added.
The college union in the Maharaja Technical Institute, an ITI, is led by the pro-CPM Students Federation of India. The magazine had reproduced a google post depicting Modi among the 10 top criminals in an article titled ‘Silent Emergency’ published in the magazine.
According to Mr. James, the matter came to the notice of the press only after it was printed. "The students get the matter ready only after the completion of layout and design", he added.
“But, when the picture was noticed, we have informed the students that the copies will not be handed due to the objectionable matter,” he said.
SFI leaders in the college decried the action of the press and said that it was against the freedom of expression. The union leaders then took a Photostat copy of the magazine and it was formally released.
