Mysuru: Two more farmers killed themselves in the Old Mysuru region on Thursday unable to bear the debt burden. A 40-year-old farmer ended his life by hanging himself in Maarasinganahalli in Besagarahalli police station limits in Maddur taluk, Mandya district on Thursday. Puttaswamy, son of late Chikkachannegowda, is survived by his mother Shanthamma, wife Chithra and two sons who are studying.

According to a complaint lodged by Puttaswamy’s mother, they owned four acres of land and cultivated the mulberry crop. Due to drop in silk cocoon prices he had reportedly suffered losses. He had borrowed Rs 4 lakh including Rs 2 lakh from banks.

The second suicide was by a 44-year-old farmer who consumed poison in Haradooru in Periyapatna taluk, Mysuru district. Mallesh is survived by his wife and two children. He had cultivated tobacco and ginger and had borrowed Rs 4 lakh from a nationalised bank. Overburdened by the loan, he took the extreme step, police said.
