J&K villagers who captured Pakistani militant Naved rewarded
Srinagar: Two Jammu and Kashmir residents Vikramjeet Singh and Rakesh Sharma who captured fleeing Pakistani militant Muhammad Naved Yakub alive following Wednesday's deadly attack on a Border Security Force convoy at Samruli along the Srinagar-Jammu highway were on Friday rewarded by the State government.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Choudhary Lal Singh visited Nursu (Dhramthal) area of Chenani outside the garrison town of Udhampur to meet the ‘brave-hearts’ and other villagers. “People of the area demanded jobs, awards and providing of security to these boys for their courage and act of bravery besides PMGSY road to Chirdi village, construction of new toilets and installation of street lights and strengthening the Village Defence Committees,” an official handout issued here said.

The minister announced cash reward of Rs 50,000 each for the two villagers besides IAY house and also asked Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary to prepare their cases for jobs in police department immediately. He assured the residents that he will recommend their names for State as well as National awards. Mr. Singh also announces 200 toilets and 100 street lights to the Chirdi area. He stressed upon the people of the area to be more vigilant and cautious.

He also appreciated the efforts of DC Udhampur Mr. Choudhary in handling the situation “timely, efficiently and effectively” following Wednesday’s attack in which two BSF jawans were killed and fifteen others injured. One of the two militants involved in the attack too was killed in security forces’ retaliatory fire.
