CFTRI: MSG not listed in FSSAI advisory for testing Maggi
Mysuru: The Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) has refuted the allegations made by FSSAI that it did not conduct a test for Mono Sodium Glucomate (MSG) to conclude that Maggi noodles is safe for consumption.
In a press statement, CFTRI director Mr Ramarajasekaran explained that MSG was not analysed as it was not listed as a parameter to be adopted for testing in the advisory released by FSSAI on June 8, 2015. According to Mr Ramarajasekaran, Goa being covered under CFTRI which is the referral laboratory, they received the samples of Maggi from designated officers of Goa state for testing.
They followed the advisory of FSSAI issued on June 8 this year on the parameters and standards for testing of noodles, pasta and macaroni. They did not analyse MSG as it was not listed as a parameter for testing in the FSSAI advisory, he stated.
The report by CFTRI, Mysuru had reportedly revealed that Lead found in Maggi and its tastemaker is within permissible limits virtually giving a clean chit to the food product which has been banned.
