Alain Pellet & R Bundy drafted for marines case
Kochi: Acclaimed international law experts Alain Pellet and R. Bundy would appear for India before the International Tribunal, Hamburg, Germany, to defend the sensational Italian firing case next week. The tribunal would consider the case on August 10 and 11.
An Indian team, led by Additional Solicitor-General P.L. Narasimha and officials from the Ministries of External Affairs and Home, would also be in Germany.
Alain Pellet, former president of the UN International Law Commission, is a French national while R. Bundy is a veteran lawyer having 30-year experience in international law.
Italy informed the Supreme Court on July 13 that it had invoked international arbitration against India.
Being a signatory to the International Convention, India also decided to participate in the arbitration proceedings.
Marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, who were on board the ship 'Enrica Lexie,' are accused of killing two Indian fishermen on February 15, 2012. The tribunal consists of 21 independent members.
