Telugu Titans tighten grip on semis
Deepak Nivas Huda was the star with his strong defence and powerful raids as he picked up 11 points
Hyderabad: The atmosphere was not as gloomy and the temperature not as hot as in the movie 300 directed by Zack Synder, but the Telugu Titans — led by Meraj Shyek — quite literally kicked the Bengal warriors into the well to win their second home match in the second leg of the StarSports Pro Kabaddi League played at the Gachibowli indoor stadium in the city on Wednesday.
The hosts, who seemed to have done their home-work, thumped the visitors 44-28 to win their sixth match of the league. They need two more wins to seal a spot in the semifinals.
Deepak Nivas Huda was the star with his strong defence and powerful raids as he picked up 11 points. Rahul, the top performer against the Panthers, chipped in with 10 points.
“We played like a team today. Raj Guru Subramanian was back into the squad and that made the difference. His return boosted my confidence as I was back to my normal playing position and they helped me a lot,” Deepak said.
Dinesh Kumar, the Bengal Warriors skipper, was not pleased with his team’s performance. “We played really badly today. The senior players in our team are nursing injuries and hence we had to play with the juniors. But all credit to the Telugu Titans.”
Earlier, the Titans were a team on a mission. They were out to regain lost glory as they hunted down their rivals one-by-one and inflicted two all-outs within the first 18 minutes of the match and pushed their hapless opponents onto the backfoot.
