UK keen on participation in capital construction
Vijayawada: British deputy high commissioner Mr Andrew McAllister here on Wednesday said that the UK government wants to see India realise its vision of creating 100 smart cities and the UK wants to take part in its materialisation.
Speaking at the round-table conference organised on ‘Smart Cities and Inclusion’ by the British Deputy High Commission and Foundation For Futuristic Cities in collaboration with AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation, Mr Andrew said that the UK has no competition in infrastructure development and London’s underground city is an example of it.
Foundation for Futuristic Cities president Ms Karuna Gopal said that it is very important to discuss how women, senior citizens, physically challenged and the poor are included in the smart city master plans. She said proactive planning to make cities gender friendly, senior citizen friendly and handicapped friendly is of utmost importance. District collector Mr Babu A said that MG Road in already being considered as a golden mine which satisfies 23 parameters of the total 253 parameters required for smart city concept.
Commissioner of police Mr D. Gautam Sawang, representatives of AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation and others were present. Meanwhile, Mr Andrew, along with his team, expressed interest for business to business cooperation on the specific sectors like construction of capital region, investments in primary and secondary sectors, in a joint press conference with Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande in Guntur.
Mr Andrew said that there were exciting future opportunities available in Guntur district for investment in different sectors. He said that they were finding ways for trade and investment in the newly proposed capital city.
