K Chandrasekhar Rao says look beyond engineering, medicine
He suggested that the education ministry design courses to meet employment needs of society
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday called for strenghtening the education system and told the education ministry to “be aware of realities and reform itself.” He said the notion that engineering and medicine are the only fields of study which provide employment should be dispelled.
He suggested that the education ministry design courses to meet the human resources and employment needs of society. He was speaking during a marathon meeting on education on Wednesday with Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari, principal secretary Ranjeev Acharya, TSPSC chairman Dr Ghanta Chakrapani, technical education commissioner A. Vani Prasad, school education commissioner T. Chiranjeevulu and others.
He said students should be aware of the competitive exams held around the world and prepare for them. They should not just hope for public employment through the TS PSC Group exams.
He wanted each Assembly constituency to have at least 10 residential schools, adding up 1,190, where free education till Class 12 would be provided. The state has 668 such schools and the rest need to be built. He also stressed on the need for building more hostels for minority students: Of the 3,000 hostels, only 21 are for minorities.
