Don’t panic over errors in photo electoral rolls: Sandeep Saxena
There is a misconception among public that the election officials are removing the names
Chennai: Chief electoral officer Sandeep Saxena on Wednesday said that there was nothing to panic with the errors related to photo electoral rolls. The public elections department will be releasing its draft electoral roll by the mid of the next month and those seeking inclusion, deletion and corrections with the voters roll can approach the district election officials seeking necessary action.
There is a misconception among public that the election officials are removing the names. The list that is available is a draft and is subjected to corrections. All the political parties are provided the draft rolls and they can verify and inform the elections department in case of essential corrections, he said. Booth level officers who have failed to correct the multiple entries and removal of names from the voters roll have been asked to clarify the mistake and notices have been served on them seeking clarification.
On initiatives as part of the National Electoral Rolls Purification Authentication and Programme (NERPAP), the CEO said all the 60,094 polling booths in TN were mapped through Google Apps and the public could avail themselves of basic information by providing their Epic numbers. Ninety per cent of the mapping work and the NERPAP initiatives had been completed. Efforts were on to encourage public participation in the electoral process, Saxena added.
