Telangana believes in its own tech expertise for Water Grid
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced that the Water Grid scheme will be taken up in 26 segments and tenders for the work under Phase I, worth Rs 15,887 crore, will be accepted from August 7.
For the remaining 15 segments, tender notification will be issued on August 30, stated a press release by the rural water supply department.
Tenders will be accepted online for a week i.e. till August 14, it said. Trusting its own engineering expertise, the government has dispensed with the hither-to followed Engineering Procurement Construction system and prepared detailed project reports with its own staff, said Mr B. Surender Reddy, engineer-in-chief of RWS.
We got it ratified by Wapcos Limited, an accredited public sector enterprise under the aegis of the Union ministry of water resou-rces. It has multi-disciplinary project teams comprising its own core group of professionals and specialists from various organisations of the government of India. So there will not be any change in the DPRs" said Mr Reddy.
“Our engineers have designed scientific models and DPRs for some other projects and they were widely appreciated and companies have come forward with lesser estimates than the projected one; and for Water Grid too, we hope that these tenders would fetch profits for the state exchequer,” je saod.
The rates accepted by the Board of engineers will be applicable to these tenders and there will not be any changes due to amendments, he said.
According to officials, the Mahbubnagar-Sris-ailam segment works are estimated to be the highest at Rs 5,953 crore, followed by Nalgonda at Rs 2,106 crore, Nalgonda-Sagar tail pond works at Rs 1,485 crore and Warangal-Paleru at '1,700 crore.
