Mothers’ milk is first vaccine for baby
Immunogloblin is considered as the first vaccine for the child
Chennai: Mother’s milk on the first day is the first natural vaccine for the child, as the milk secreted during the first two-days is called colostrum and is rich in protein and immunogloblin.
This is considered as the first vaccine for the child, hence mothers should give importance to giving colostrum to their babies, said experts at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital here during the awareness programme organised by the hospital authorities coinciding with the World Breast Feeding Week celebrations from August 1 to 7.
Inaugurating the function on Tuesday, Government Stanley Medical College Hospital Dean Dr. Isaac Christian Moses said, “Breastfeeding is very important for the physical and mental development of the child. Breast milk is rich in protein and nutrients. We are conducting these programmes to create awareness among mothers about the importance of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding mothers can save up to Rs 10,000 that is spent on artificial feeding.”
Pointing out that it was wrong to construe that a woman would lose her beauty if she breastfed her baby, Dr. Shanthi, director in-charge of the Institute of Social Pediatrics (ISP) at the Stanley GH said, “A mother must be stress-free while feeding her baby. Breastfeeding reduces chances of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.”
The hospital will organise several programmes like guest lectures, breast feeding for mothers, hands-on techniques of breast feeding and quiz for students through the Department of Neonatology.
