Kerala police yet to name left MLAs in Assembly ruckus
Kochi: Five months have passed since LDF legislators raised a ruckus in the Assembly, destroyed property and five of them got suspended. But police could not name anyone still, though they 'identified' six of them.
V Suresh Kumar, assistant commissioner, Cantonment, Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday submitted before Kerala High Court that “though no particular person was named in the first information statement registered at the Museum police station, six persons have so far been identified as accused and further investigation in this regard is still in progress.
Taking into account the gravity of the incident which has taken place inside the Kerala Legislative Assembly, further investigation of the crime has been entrusted to Crime Branch”.
He made the submission on a plea filed by litigant P. D. Joseph of Thrissur seeking a directive to the state to realise adequate compensation for the damages from the five Opposition MLAs - K. Ajith, V. Sivankutty, K. T. Jaleel, K. Kunhammed and E. P. Jayarajan - who were suspended for allegedly vandalising the Speaker’s dais during the Budget presentation.
The incident happened on March 13. Police further submitted that, apart from this, 12 other cases were registered for incidents outside the House.
"Police had taken timely action on the complaints,” he submitted. Regarding realisation of damages caused due to the hartal on March 14, the state submitted that in all those cases in which offences under Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, bail has been granted only after furnishing sufficient security.
