BBMP polls: Poll code violated, complain BJP
Bengaluru: A delegation led by former minister S. Suresh Kumar lodged a complaint with State Election Commission (SEC) against Congress government alleging violation of code of conduct and demanded action.
The former minister and MLC Ashwathnarayan said that although the code of conduct prohibits government from using the names and photos of ministers, the government has been using the photos of CM Siddaramaiah and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundurao on the products supplied under Public Distribution System.
They handed over a copy of the complaint to SEC chairman P. N. Srinivasachari and demanded action against misuse of power and public funds.
Ashwathnarayan said that criminal cases should be registered against officials from the food and civil supplies department, minister and the government for violation of code of conduct.
Independent candidate files papers
With Tuesday being the second day for receiving nominations for the BBMP polls, one independent candidate, Christu Raj, has filed nomination from Hagadur (ward 84). Since the major parties — BJP, Congress and JD(S) are yet to finalise the list, none from these parties have filed nominations.
After a marathon meeting at BJP’s Malleswaram office, the party has finalised its first list with 95 candidates to contest BBMP polls. The candidates have been finalised at constituency level. MLC V. Somanna has reportedly objected to the candidates finalised for Govindrajnagar and Vijayanagar, said sources.
Congress is expected to issue the list of probable candidates on August 7 and JD(S) is holding meetings with party workers to arrive at a consensus on candidates.
