You have to find the inner magic in every star: Nishikant Kamat

Having made a mark for himself as a filmmaker who keeps his audience engaged, we asked Nishikant how he plans his projects at the script writing level. He says, “I try to think like a viewer, then I have to break the anticipation. Once you start imagining what the audience is thinking at a particular stage, then everything falls in place. You make them laugh, cry and mostly, I try to keep my stories real.”

Ajay Devgn too is getting lots of appreciation for his acting in the film. People are calling it one of his best performances. Making a star drop his larger-than-life image must be difficult, but it paid off. Nishikant explains, “We all know that he has a strong personality and the challenge was to make him look common. He is a capable actor and I am lucky to get him for this film. We formed a nice bond. You will have to find the inner magic in every star.”

Ask him what’s the best feedback he has got so far for the film and Nishikant says, “We are told that people are standing and clapping after the film got over. The end has really shocked them. I am very happy with this reaction.”

What about the number game and the 100-crore pressure that every film with a star faces? “First of all, I am not in the number game,” he counters. “I have always tried to make good films. I don’t take that part (money) too seriously. To make mega blockbusters, you have to make it that way and yes, stars also add a lot of value to it. With Drishyam, we were very clear that the intention is to make a good film which the audience enjoy.”

He now starts shooting the remaining portions of Rocky Handsome starring John Abraham and Shruti Haasan. He says, “Yes, the major portion of the film was shot long time ago. Only 10 days’ shooting is left, which I will start next week.”
