Kabul: Days after the reports of former Taliban chief Mullah Omar's death surfaced, Afghanistan government on Tuesday said that his son Mullah Yaqub was killed last week in Pakistan's Quetta.
As per a report published in Afghan news site TOLO News, Mullah Omar's son was killed four days ago in a meeting in Pakistan's Quetta, Afghanistan's first deputy speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) Zahir Qadir said.
Mullah Yaqub, according to Qadir, had attempted to succeed his father to lead Taliban fighters but was mysteriously assassinated by Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor, who has already been appointed by his supporters to lead the Taliban group.
