Telangana youth is part of the Islamic State outfit
Hyderabad: Intelligence agencies have stated that one of the seven Indians working in the ranks of the terror outfit Islamic State is from Telangana. He is serving as a cook or a driver and has not been given combat duty yet, the agencies said. Only one of the six others, from Kalyan, Mumbai, has been given combat duties.
Earlier, one person from Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Mohammad Haneef Waseem, 27, who had joined the IS, was killed in battle in Syria. Also, previously, 15 youngsters from TS were stopped by the state police while they were trying to leave for Iraq to join the IS. Official sources said the seven Indians with the IS include two from Kalyan on Mumbai’s outskirts and an Australia-based Kashmiri. Four others joined the group from TS, Bengaluru, Oman and Singapore. Union home secretary L.C. Goyal at a meeting of home secretaries and DGPs of 12 states formulated a strategy to prevent youth from getting attracted to radical ideologies propagated by the IS. Maharashtra and TS have already put in place a model for dealing with IS-related cases. While there have been arrests in some cases, agencies realised that arrest should not be the first option.
