RTI query reveals 200 PG medical seats still vacant
The university has no intention to benefit private colleges
Vijayawada: After an RTI query revealed that 200 convener quota PG medical seats remained vacant in the counselling held last month to fill 1,000 convener quota seats in both government and private colleges of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Dr NTR Health Science University officials claim that the university has no intention to benefit private colleges by selling the seats in the management and NRI quotas.
As the medicos alleged that the university deliberately kept 200 seats vacant, G. Krishna Murthy, academic director R&D, told DC that vacant seats had been allotted to students who vacated them after choosing other colleges.
“Students enrol for counselling to block the seats and leave them when they get a seat in other big colleges. That’s why 200 seats are still vacant,” he said. However, medicos disagreed and questioned how 200 seats could remain vacant when the courses are in great demand.
While there are speculations that the 200 seats will be filled through management category, university officials said the seats will not be filled. If anybody is caught admitting students, they will be prosecuted and the college will be blacklisted, said registrar S. Babulal. University officials added, “If we get court orders to fill the vacant 200 PG seats, we are ready to fill those seats by arranging counselling.”
