No wreaths allowed on Sasi Perumal’s body

KANYAKUMARI: Visitors were not allowed to place wreaths on the body of the Gandhian activist Sasi Perumal who died during an anti-liquor protest on July 31.
The body had been kept in the mortuary of the Nagercoil Asaripallam government medical college hospital.
The Vilavancode Congress MLA, S. Vijayadharani, who came to place a wreath on the body of the activist, placed the wreath at the Dean’s office on Monday and went away. The incident occurred in her constituency.
Accompanied by her partymen, she came to the hospital around 4.30 pm. She was instructed not to see the body with his partymen and media. This enraged Vijayadharani, who sat in front of the hospital’s faculty office.
The hospital administration stuck to its stand. The legislator gave up her protest on the intervention of Agastheeswaram tahsildar.
She went to the hospital Dean’s room and placed the wreath on the table and went out. The Dean Vadivelmurugan, however, said they were acting on state government’s instructions.
