Mullaperiyar police station to get hi-tech gadgets for better security
Thiruvananthapuram: The proposed Mullaperiyar police station will be equipped with advanced security gadgets like underwater minesweepers and explosive vapour detector to spy on and avert sabotage bids.
The state government recently decided to set up the Mullaperiyar police station to strengthen security of the more than a century old dam on the basis of security audits conducted by Intelligence Bureau and the state police chief.
Apart from 124 posts of personnel of varying ranks, the station will be headed by an officer of the rank of assistant commandant / DySP.
Besides common security gadgets like doorframe metal detectors and handheld metal detectors, the station will have deep-search metal detectors that snoop on underground objects, underwater minesweeper for explosives, explosive vapour detector and nonlinear junction detector to tap unshielded electronic device containing semiconductors and even things that are not themselves electronic in nature.
Twelve night-vision surveillance cameras will be also set up in the area, according to a government order. The government had sanctioned Rs 85 lakh for equipment purchase.
