Mahatma Gandhi University to name new science complex after APJ Abdul Kalam

Kerala was quick to respond to his dreams and the first educational channel in India- VICTERS came into being

Thiruvananthapuram: Mahatma Gandhi University here on Monday decided to name its upcoming Rs 28.5 crore convergence academia complex after former President A P J Abdul Kalam.

The complex will house its interdisciplinary interuniversity centres, vying for cutting edge scientific explorations, Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian said at a remembrance meeting. MGU has 14 Interuniversity Centres under its fold.

"The initiative is not only to showcase the love and affection of the academic fraternity for Kalam, but to be a continuous source of inspiration to aspiring students to tread new paths," he said.

Dr Sebastian said Kalam would be remembered nationally for his contributions for creating a new benchmark in international science and technology, besides his unassuming stint as a 'people's President' and beacon of inspiration.

The VC said Kalam was instrumental in launching the dedicated EDUSAT with remote sensing to cover the shadow regions in the country, thereby ensuring the cover of educational programmes.

Kerala was quick to respond to his dreams and the first educational channel in India- VICTERS came into being. The national policy for education and ICT also have Kalam's visionary signature.
