Land Regularisation Scheme applicants in double trouble
Hyderabad: Several applicants for Telangana government’s recent Land Regularisation Scheme in the city are facing ‘double trouble’ due to conditions imposed by the government. The government’s condition that only those plots on which houses have been built and applicants are residing in, will be considered for LRS makes it unaffordable for people from middle and lower income groups to seek regularisation.
They were asked to pay the current market value of the plot in four instalments under LRS, which comes to Rs 40 lakh in many areas in the city. They again need to apply for BRS to regularise the building constructed on the plot by spending lakhs. With this, the plight of middle and lower income groups whose LRS applications were converted from free category to payment category is even more.
The government regularised plots up to 125 sq.yards for BPL families free of cost, for which nearly 2 lakh applications were received.
But after field-level verification, as many as 16,915 applications received under ‘free category’ were converted to ‘payment category’ as the annual income of that particular household crossed Rs 2 lakh per annum even by Rs 5,000.
“We work at private firms for a salary of Rs 10,000 per month. During field-level verification, officials calculated the salaries of both due to which our income limit crossed the Rs 2 lakh mark. They declared us ineligible for free regularisation and converted us into payment category. My brother does not stay here permanently as he is getting married soon. Now we are asked to pay Rs 40 lakh to regularise only the plot. They told us that we need to apply for building regularisation again by paying some more lakhs based on the rates prescribed by the government in future,” said K.Phaneendra, a resident of Shaikpet mandal.
