Erode: Four members of a family including a three-year-old were crushed to death after huge tree got uprooted and fell on the car, in which, they were travelling at Gobichettipalayam in Erode district on Monday. The tree was uprooted due to heavy winds accompanied by rains in the area.
Police said Periasamy, 42, an astrologer from Kannadipudur in Erode, was returning after visiting a temple for Aadi Perukku along with 10 members of his family in a car, when a huge tree fell on their car near Kallipatty ‘pirivu’.
In the impact, Periasamy’s wife Vijaya, 32, their son Surya, 15, his brother’s daughter Akshaya, 3 and a relative Latha, 21 were crushed to death on the spot. Six others who were in the car escaped with minor injuries.
On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and sent the body of the deceased persons for post mortem at the government hospital in Gobichettipalayam. The police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
