Call for unity to secure future of world environment
Mahesh, director of Nehru memorial museum explained how the future of the world environment could be secured through unity of all nations
Chennai: People of all countries should come together to celebrate and share their love for animals. “Animals are a huge part of our culture, our symbol, our religion and play a huge role in our history as well, but somehow they lost their priority in our lives over the years.”
This was stated by Mahesh Rangarajan, director of Nehru memorial museum in New Delhi, while speaking at the annual function of the Kuruvilla Jacob Initiative on “Nation and Ecology.”
He explained how the future of the world environment could be secured through unity of all nations.
Rangarajan explained how the 20th century witnessed most wars and unlike the general assumption that the people were the most affected, wildlife in various parts of the world suffered equally if not more.
He explained the significance of an unified ecology among all nations. “When we talk about India we talk about how diverse the people and cultures are, why can’t we also talk about India as a country with diverse wildlife. In a quest for peace among people, we also need a peace with nature,” he said.
Rangarajan said it made him happy to see how the death of Cecil, a lion by the American dentist, enraged social media users and said this showed that environment conservation was on the people’s agenda.
Established by MCC alumni in memory of Kuruvilla John, principal of MCC from 1931 to 1962, the Kuruvilla Jacob Initiative acts as a catalyst in aiding schools to adopt innovative methods and techniques for excellence in education.
