ibis Chennai City Centre to open on Anna Salai
Chennai: The booming hospitality business in Chennai is getting more competitive with another iternational hotel brand opening shop in the heart of the city. ibis Chennai City Centre, an economy brand hotel developed jointly by French Hotel group, Accor Hotels and hospitality firm InterGlobe Hotels will open on Anna Salai in a few months.
The new hotel, which will have 158 guest rooms, will be operated by Accor Hotels India. It will join the network of 11 bis hotels across
India and will be the second such hotel in Chennai.
“The hotel that is strategically located on Anna Salai in the heart of Chennai’s central business district amongst major place of business and commercial landmarks will start operating by last quarter of calendar year 2015,” said Jean Michel Cassé, senior vice president, operations – AccorHotels, India.
With the opening of the ibis Chennai City Centre, the group will have a total of three hotels operating in the city alongside Novotel Chennai Sipcot and the ibis Chennai Sipcot, both in Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) on Chennai market and group’s strategy, Casse said localisation was an important strategy that the group adopted.
“Our brands are positioned as ‘Born in France, Made in India’ and we have successfully combined our French DNA with local customer tastes,” he
said.
According to industry experts, hospitality sector in Chennai seems to be checking into a new phase of growth recently.
T. Natarajan, Secretary, South India Hotel and Restaurant Association (SIHRA) said in every three-four months, one new five-star hotel is opened in Chennai mainly along East Coast Road and along OMR.
