Chennai: Irked over his co-worker hurling abuses at him and their boss, a 32-year-old carpenter killed his colleague in a drunken stupor at the latter’s residence in Mangadu on Sunday night.
The boss of the two, A. Meiyappan of Saligramam checked on the deceased, M.Venkatesh’s house at Mangadu to find him dead in a pool of blood. “Venkatesh was found with stab wounds on his chest and his head was hit with a flower pot,” Meiyappan told the police officers.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Venkatesh, a native of Tiruvannamali district was working in Meiyappan’s carpentry firm and was provided accommodation on Thiruveethi Amman Temple Street in Baraniputhur, Mangadu, where he was staying for the past two months.
On Sunday night, Venkatesh and his colleague, K. Muthuramalingam alias Kutty were drinking when the incident happened. Kutty who resides at Vadapalani used to drink with Venkatesh after work hours and the duo used to pick up quarrels every now and then, a police officer said.
A special team picked up Kutty from his residence where he had locked himself up after committing the murder.
