Exclusive: Farah Khan to direct a biopic on Sania Mirza

Parineeti Chopra would be the best person to play her, says Sania

After Milkha Singh, Mary Kom and Mohammad Azharuddin, Bollywood has lined up Sania Mirza’s story to be told on silver screen. A biopic on the Hyderabad tennis ace is in the offing and shooting is likely to start in December.

Sources tell us that Farah Khan, a close friend of Sania’s, will direct the film. Asked if she would be starring in the film, Sania chuckles: “I don’t think so.” In which case, who does she think is best suited to play her? “Parineeti Chopra,” is Sania’s pick.

To ensure facts are rightly represented, the Mirzas are keen that the film is based on Sania’s autobiography, which is scheduled to be in the stores by the year-end. However, the book, the release of which has been postponed a few times, could be delayed yet again. “I don’t know when it will be out,” Sania says. “Every time it goes into editing, something new happens in my life/career, forcing me to add another chapter,” she sighs.

Farah, along with actors Imran Khan, Farhan Akhtar and other Bollywood personalities, had visited Wimbledon last month where Sania won the women’s doubles with Martina Hingis, to complete her Grand Slam set.

After her return to India, Farah had hosted Sania for an Eid lunch at her house in Mumbai before the World No. 1 flew to Sri Lanka to be with husband Shoaib Malik, who was part of the Pakistan cricket team playing an away series. “Id lunch. Thank you for being a super host, dost and cook... see u in a few days,” Sania had tweeted.
